Capturing and freezing a moment in time as an image onto the back of a camera has been a passion for professional photographers and enthusiasts alike since its invention in the early 1800’s. Like a fine art painter, creating a picture requires thought, framing and composition using the palette of dials and almost infinite choice of options from drop-down menus of the modern-day camera, to ensure the light is caught in a way that the photographer desires. Like imaginative strokes from the painter’s brush, the quality of the photograph can now be fine-tuned with the tools of post-processing software that bring creativity, emphasis and clarity of expression to the image. Et voilà.
Yet, photography does not end here. There is another and higher-level dimension to strive for. It is to make that shot natural and speak, deliver a message or even tell a story in such a manner to stir the emotion and bring insight. Teasing out complexity and focusing on simplicity in a photograph can also rouse a reflective mood. Crucial to this end is finding the place, the players and the backdrop. Here, timing and being opportunistic is everything in search of the picture that is meaningful, provocative or even absolute. But what an adventure it all entails – where, exploring the world near or far brings enlightenment, but using photography to portray the experience to others is an art and becomes a spiritual endeavour!
So here we are, together for a very brief moment in time, to witness such diversity and splendour in this microcosm of a world we call home despite the vastness and almost emptiness of what is beyond. This website is a selection of photographs taken since 2016, grouped into a number of individual gallery’s, that represent my journey and endeavour to convey that experience.
