ANTARCTICA
Port Lockroy
Port Lockroy is a large bay that harbors a historic British Antarctic Survey base. A communication mast is just visible rising behind the huts on a rocky island to the right of the picture.
The natural harbor provides a safe haven for sailors who dare to cross Drakes Passage from the Southern tip of South America.
TURKEY
Atatürk Mausoleum, Ankara
Guarded from both sides, a view looking over the Ceremonial Ground from the tomb entrance of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk – leader of the Turkish War of Independence and the founder and first President of the Republic of Turkey.
The final resting place of İsmet İnönü (the second President of Turkey) faces the Atatürk Mausoleum on the opposite side of the Ceremonial Ground.
When the crowds disappear, a lone guardsman keeps watch over the memorial tomb.
